Star guard Ben Simmons, who has been out of the NBA for more than six months, finally got his midseason goal when he teamed up with The Nets’ Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, calling a three-player pairing “horrible.”He clarified that his reluctance to play for seven or six was due to “personal reasons” and that there was no personal grudge against his former club, but admitted that he had not spoken to former partner Joel Embiid since the deal was made.Simmons revealed that he spoke with sevens owner Josh Harris, general manager Elton Brand and coach Doc Rivers after the deal was made, but not with his former partner Embiid.According to Simmons, there is no timetable for his return, but he hopes to play in the Nets’ 7-6 game against his former team on March 11. “I hope so.”He said he was in good shape, still overcoming his mental problems and moving in the right direction.”I think it’s going to be scary to have those guys running around me,” Simmons said of teaming up with durant and Irving. “It’s unreal to think of the pace we’re going to play.”He feels lucky to be joining a team like the Nets, and he wants to run a fluid offense like the one he played against the Heat in the 2018 playoffs, when he averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists and 2.4 steals in five games of that series, surrounded by shooters.
